Illustrating Ethnographies: Drawing the Field
OPEN CALL 2026
Velanidi Residency, in collaboration with the Greek IBBY International Board on Books for Young People, invites illustrators to apply for the research-based artistic residency Illustrating Ethnographies: Drawing the Field.
The programme will take place in Peleta, South Kynouria, from 21 to 28 June 2026 and will host three illustrators for a week of field research, collective exchange and artistic practice.
Illustrating Ethnographies approaches illustration not only as an aesthetic outcome, but also as a method of observation, knowledge production and ethnographic documentation. The residency combines lectures and workshops on field research, ethnographic notes, oral history and archival research with meetings, conversations and participatory observation within the local community.
